It was good to be able to select a car. They said that would be cheaper. Great car peice Pros: Clean new car, price amazing Cons: Line was a bit long need to hire moor folks. Pickup took much too long at the counter. Ease of renting at the office - 1st floor for cars, and staff was good. The gas fill up policy. Agent at San Diego airport said toll costs would only be incurred on days used - we only used it once in all 8 days - come to drop the car off and told that the fees are for all days of rental regardless of use.

Wouldn't be using thrifty again - and unhappy agent lied to us. Airport shuttle immediately available. Very little, priced according to the service and vehicle I received. Everything from having the vehicle type I selected, to speed of checkout, had to return to airport to get correct vehicle for my trip necessities. Vehicle was dirty, although it had been run through the wash. Very friendly, great customer service and rep explained everything we would recieve with the rental. After having to return the cars 3 different times due to oil leaks and flat tires - we have decided to never use Advantage again.

Car had a bunch of scratches and dents, but i really liked that they had all these identified when i picked up the car and didn't have to go back to have these noted. Was charged for gas even tjough i returned it full!! Advantage in San Diego Cons: We rented a car online using Kayak from Advantage Car rental. We selected the pay during car pickup option. When we arrived airport we learned that Advantage did not honor our car reservation and they were out of cars.

We would not recommend using Advantage and now we are weary of Kayak as well. Car had mechanical issues, brakes squealed like a banshee, mechanical light came on. Not a big deal. What bothered me the most was the drop off. Seemed like it went well, knew my name from scanning the car in, said receipt would be emailed to me. Never asked about receipt for gas Able to resolve it, but it should never have happened in the first place.

They didn't honor the insurance that I was offered and prepaid for, so I'm out seventy two dollars on that. Radio didn't work in car. I arrived 20 minutes prior to the official start time of my rental and the counter person said the car wasn't ready. He then attempted to upsell me on a more expensive rental which he said was "available immediately". When I returned the car, price was higher than quoted on the website.

There was an additional tax and the staff said that usually the cost is more than the estimate.

The agent I dealt with at the counter was as flexible as he could be with me within the local policies. A lot more honestly and upfrontness about extra fees. Staffs are very friendly. We had a flat tire on the freeway and had insurance. After 55 minutes with their Road Side Assistance, they were unable to send us any help.

We ended up calling and received help later through a truck driver. I have never been treated so rudely by any other company. Don't con me into upgrading to a 'luxury suv' then have no luxury sub's available. Car was excellent the mid size suvs is what always works for me. Line was long in San Diego for rental paperwork. When I finally got to the counter the agent handled things very well. Took 25 minutes just to get to the counter. Great value for the money. Your staff is overworked. There were 2 agents for a lineup of 20 people. They were very nice, and not their fault, it was so slow. The drop-off was flawless. Quick effective drop off! Stood in line for about twenty minutes waiting for one attendant to help 15 people?

After that then two employees came in to assist and the line sped up! Waited for over 2 hours for our pick-up. There were only 8 people in line ahead of us when we got there 1 person working. When it was finally our turn, the employee spent half the time trying to up-sell us. More staff working to facilitate a quicker pickup. Drop off was easy.

The pick up took us 1hr 15 min. The line were too long with only one person helping most of the time. Car was in good condition and the drop-off was good. Staff were surly, slow and unhelpful. They had a line out the door, but you wouldn't have known it from the lack of urgency. Car was not prepped either, so after waiting in line for 45 minutes, we had to wait another 15 minutes.

Also had to bring my husband back to sign paperwork, versus all other companies that let spouse drive automatically. We lost 2 hours because of this. I've used National's Emerald Isle for years. To make up for the inconvenience, I was told I would be given a discount from my original intermediate type car reservation, however, that did not happen, they just hit my credit card with the full charge for the larger vehicle I never go to drive.
